Your Surgical Experience

At Sebrow Laser Vision your surgical experience encompasses three stages: A pre-operative evaluation, the surgical procedure, and post operative management.

THE PRE-OPERATIVE EVALUATION

• A complete eye examination will be performed. We will check the health of your eyes to determine if there are any contraindications to surgery.

• Two refractions are performed to check for any variations in your refractive error. Since the second refraction is performed after the administration of dilating drops, you should expect to be blurred and sensitive to light after the examination. This blurring can last for up to 24 hours.

• An Obscan topographic study and an ultrasonic measurement of corneal thickness will be obtained. These tests are critical in assessing whether you are a candidate for Refractive Surgery.

• You will meet with Dr. Sebrow who will answer any questions that you may have and discuss your expectations. He will also review the benfits, risks and alternative procedures available to you based on his expertise and your needs.

THE SURGICAL PROCEDURE

At Sebrow Laser Vision, surgery is performed in an outpatient facility. Surgery is painless and lasts a matter of seconds. What you experience on the day of your surgery depends on the procedure that you and Dr. Sebrow have selected. Depending on a variety of factors we may decide to operate on both eyes simultaneously or perform sequential surgery-that is one eye at a time.

• You will be positioned comfortably in a chair in the surgical suite.

• A surgical technician will disinfect your eyelashes and clean around your

eyes.

• One of your eyes will then be patched.

• The technician will then administer anesthetic drops and antibiotic drops to the unpatched eye.

• Dr. Sebrow will then insert a lid speculum between your eyelids, which helps keep your eyes open during the procedure.

• You will then be asked to focus on a red blinking light throughout the entire procedure.

• If you are undergoing LASIK a microkeratome will be placed on the eye. You may experience a little pressure but no discomfort. Your vision will dim or blackout for approximately 30-60 seconds.

• The microkeratome will then create a protective flap.

• After the treated area is prepared Dr. Sebrow will use the laser to reshape the cornea to the desired shape.

• After the cornea is treated with the laser the flap is then replaced to its original position and the healing process begins immediately.

• Dr. Sebrow then allows several minutes for the flap to stabilize.

• The lid speculum is removed.

• After thoroughly examining the eye, Dr. Sebrow will then proceed to the next eye.

• If you are undergoing LASEK, a microtrephine will be used to outline the area where the superficial layer of the cornea will be lifted.

• After the surgical site is prepared, Dr. Sebrow will lift the superficial layer of the cornea without the use of a blade.

• After the treated area is prepared Dr. Sebrow will use the laser to reshape the cornea to the desired shape.

• After the cornea is treated with the laser the flap is replaced to its original position and the healing process begins immediately.

• The lid speculum is then removed.

• After thoroughly examining the eye, Dr. Sebrow will then proceed to the next eye.
